AI-based Autonomous Response: Are Humans Ready?
Global ransomware attacks like WannaCry already move too quickly for humans to keep up, and even more advanced attacks are on the horizon. Cyber security is quickly becoming an arms race — machines fighting machines on the battleground of corporate networks. Algorithms against algorithms.
Artificial intelligence-based cyber defense can not only detect threats as they emerge but also autonomously respond to attacks in real time. As the shortage of trained cyber analysts worsens, the future of security seems to be automatic. But are humans ready to accept the actions machines would take to neutralize threats?

In this session learn about:
- AI approaches and algorithms for detecting and responding to threats
- How human teams adopt (or resist) automated defenses
- The concepts of ‘human confirmation’ mode and ‘active defense’
- Success stories across Smart Cities, genomics organizations, and industrial control systems

Crash Course CIM...Or Else
The more products we create, the more logs we generate. The more logs we generate, the more complex it becomes to juggle all that data while keeping it meaningful. Enter the common information model, or CIM. In theory it's a simple and straightforward schema for organizing your data: tags and data models. In adopting it...not so much; let alone when you agree to implement it in three months.

A briefish session on log collection, lessons learned, and why SIEM is (probably) better with CIM.

Paths to Cloud Native
Migration to the cloud offers us an opportunity to evaluate how we build and deploy software in order to improve our agility, flexibility and resilience. But, where do we get started? In this session, we'll discuss paths to cloud native adoption from the top down, defining the space as we go and providing context for the reasons we do things the way we do. We'll discuss microservices and containers, CI/CD workflows and container orchestration with Kubernetes. From there, we'll get into Day Two concerns with API gateways and service meshes, infrastructure components which help us manage containers at scale. Finally we'll discuss Serverless, which offers even more powerful abstractions and greater efficiencies.

Digital Strategic Planning: The IT Department Must Do a New Mindset Reboot
This presentation is a look at the IT approaches and mindsets that have been in place over the last ten years, and it contrasts them with the new IT approaches and mindsets required to support the accelerating cloud and digital transformation trends impacting IT departments all over the world. The IT department of the future will be radically different, and this talk looks at how to make the required transformations.

Since 2012, Russ Finney has served in parallel as a researcher with the itmWEB Group, as an Advisory Partner with the Stratamation Network, and a business and strategy Lecturer at the University of Texas McCombs School of Business. From these perspectives, and the associated research, he is seeing and sharing the trends and actions that the very most successful companies are taking to make the IT transformations required to support future models, organizations, and strategies required for business digital transformation, hybrid clouds, machine learning, big data, and analytics. In this talk, he shares how organizations are making these mindset changes.

Prior to his current research and teaching, Russ worked as a CIO in the semiconductor, aerospace, and financial services industries for over 20 years. Top Ten Tech Mistakes that Make the Company Call the Lawyers
It may be good to “Move Fast and Break Things,” but sometimes breaking the wrong thing has serious legal ramifications that can’t be fixed. There are, of course, the big examples, like Zenefits’ founder and CEO being forced out over alleged violations of insurance laws in multiple states. But many of the mistakes are so common and so fundamental that they prevent the company from even getting off the ground at all. This talk will cover the top ten legal trip-ups that techies make in both early-stage and enterprise companies and, most importantly, how to avoid them.

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning: A New Imperative for the C-Suite and IT Executive Leadership
Twenty years ago, Bill Gates spoke about creating a “digital nervous system” for a business that was connected both internally and externally using networks, servers, PCs, and the internet. That vision has largely been achieved on a bigger and richer scale. Today what used to be an idea straight out of “science fiction” is now becoming a “science reality” with the convergence of massive processing power, storage, and connectivity. Machine learning and its capabilities are already imbedded in many advanced products - and the number different intelligence and learning applications for a business to choose and utilize is growing exponentially.

Since 2012, Russ Finney has served in parallel as a researcher with the itmWEB Group, as an advisory partner with the Stratamation Network, and a business and strategy Lecturer at the University of Texas McCombs School of Business. From these perspectives, and the associated research, he is seeing and sharing the critical paths and trends that the most successful companies are taking to plan and maximize their own use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to serve both customers and internal employees. Artificial intelligence is creating significant new efficiencies for business and, as a result, these improvements are creating the additional space for employees to be more innovative and to add more value. In this talk, Russ explains exactly how organizations are making this happen.

Prior to his current research and teaching, Russ worked as a CIO in the semiconductor, aerospace, and financial services industries for over 20 years. In 2016, he was named a Top 5 executive CIO Influencer through social media by Apollo Research (@rfinney). The key take-away ideas from this presentation are IT executive action items and approaches which can be immediately applied at any company - no matter the size or sophistication.

We take a solid look at how data is stored, how it is protected, and then how to leverage cloud storage for better cost analysis. When you think of backups, rarely do you think about recovery point objectives, and what that means to business. Also recovery time objectives for how long it takes to that data back online. Then what does all this cost?
